.As part of our commitment to support the communities we live and work in we are proud to be sponsors of The Faversham Safari.
A wander through Faversham is always a pleasure. The pretty market town with its markets, wonderful independent shops and diverse architecture means there is always something to take in and admire. As you meander down West Street you may have noticed one shop window that has regular displays and yet, this shop sells nothing at all.
If you are local to Faversham you wont need us to tell you who owns this pretty pink, medieval building. It belongs to one of Faversham’s most well known and well loved characters, Pamela Kingsnorth, or Poodle Pam, as she is more commonly known. Today Pam lives at 17 West Street. But for 40 years Pam also ran ‘Pam’s Poodle Parlor’ from there, hence the nickname.
Since closing the business when she retired in 2001 Pam has used her “shop window” to put on various displays. Some are informative (many displays feature aspects of Faversham’s rich history). Some are a celebration of our local events such as the carnival or the Faversham Hop Festival. And some are just because Pam loves the theme. Her lifelong love of dogs if often reflected in her window displays.
And for the next month Pam has kindly let us use the window to promote The Faversham Safari.
The Faversham Safari is an annual event that takes place on the first Sunday in August each year (1st August this year). Where households around town put on their own table top/garage sales. Visitors to the safari can take a wander through the town, visiting stalls, meeting people and grabbing a bargain as they go.
The event is the brainchild of Kathy West, another of Faversham’s well loved residents. Kathy created the Safari to raise money for the Faversham Creek Trust, a charity who’s overall aim is to restore Faversham Creek to a working waterway and community resource.
Since the Safari started eight years ago, it has grown info a major fundraising event. With residents paying a registration fee to take part in the event.
Harrisons are absolutely delighted to be sponsoring this well loved local community event by providing advertising boards. Funding the window display at Pam’s and new banners around the town.
We hope you’ll agree, it looks amazing.
